The 2 day gorilla trek in Rwanda goes to Volcanoes National Park, a home to gorillas in Rwanda. The park is only 120 minutes drive from Kigali International Airport! This tour package mainly takes you for mountain gorilla trekking in Parc National Des Volcans. Time permitting, we can take a visit to genocide memorial museums such as Gisozi in Kigali, Nyamata and Ntarama churches, located in 30-30km from Kigali. Alternatively, we can take community walk to communities near the park, visit schools, market or orphanage.
Detailed 2 day Itinerary: Rwanda gorilla trek
Day One: Kigali City tour, afternoon transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Breakfast at your hotel in Kigali and proceed to Gisozi genocide memorial museum in Kigali, then to Nyamata and Ntarama churches that were gazetted into genocide memorial site after the genocide in 1994. Thousands of people were massacred in these places. We shall share stories about what really happened before, during and after the genocide in Rwanda. Later in the after noon or early evening, we transfer Volcanoes National park in northern Rwanda, dinner and overnight at Muhabura Hotel, Kinigi Guest House, Hotel la Palme, Gorillas Nest or Virunga Lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback lodge.
Day Two: Gorilla trek Adventure, Transfer back to Kigali
Heavy breakfast at your lodge on Day 1 and transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about mountain gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans. Here you will be allocated to a gorilla group to visit. If you are interested in a specific gorilla group, this is the right time and place to request for it through your tour guide / driver. Porters are available for hire from US$10. This is one way to directly create employment to local people and contribute to gorilla conservation. Later we drive to the trekking start point.
The trek in search for these gentle giants is quiet hectic and can take between 60 minutes and 8 hours. This depending on the movement of the gorillas in their natural habitat. You will guided by rangers and park guides. However, some gorilla families are ever far like the Susa group!
It has never been close! Once your meet the gorillas in the forest, you will be allowed to stay with them for 60 minutes (1hour), take photos and videos, enjoy them playing, feeding and young ones swinging on tree. Return to your lodge after the trek for late lunch, and hit the road back to Kigali where the tour ends. We can drop you to your hotel in Kigali or to the airport for your scheduled departure flight.
